We're like the Teen Girl Squad -- wildly misunderstood but inexplicably connected. Even the pastels...and everyone knows those are *barely* colors. And I absolutely love the way that black makes colors pop. What I don't love so much though... is the way that black food coloring lingers on fingers and mouths long after the cookie has been eaten.

There are about a bajillion reasons why I love making Halloween cookies. But here are my top 3 -- 1. You get to use fun bright colors. 2. You can add candy to literally ANY set and it totally works. And I love candy. 3. If you mess up -- no you didn't. Add eyeballs and it's now a monster.

Sometimes you see a cookie and you are instantly in love with it -- the lines, the colors, the creativity... you just want to scoop it up and take it home with you. Maybe make it a little bed in the corner of your kitchen so it can stay with you and be your new late night cookie decorating friend. It can live off disco dust and good intentions.

So... I'm not sure if you know this...but I'm a little bit obsessed with color. I love mixing colors. It's my favorite part of cookie decorating. You know...along with the planning and the cookie dough tasting and the late-ish nights alone without screaming children and the photographing and the sharing of the finished cookies.

I ran a half marathon last Saturday. Really, I have nothing else to say about that. I just wanted you to know. Because 13 miles is a long way. And there was a hill at the end. We live in the golden era of cookie decorating. For decades, cookie decorators have had to improvise with tools originally designed and created for cake decorators. Is there a word for an anti-talent? Because I have one of those. It involves returning library books before they've been gone so long that they've very nearly assimilated into the wild and can no longer associate with the other library books for fear that they will band together and stage a coup while the poor librarians backs are turned helping an unsuspecting patron find that very special book on knitting wool overalls. Seriously. I don't want to live in a world where *I'm* the one responsible for the lack of wool overalls. I can't handle that kind of pressure. And not to be indelicate...but thank goodness Blockbuster is no longer around. Returning rental videos was like library books on steroids. Which, as you can imagine, would also NOT be good for the woolen overall population of this country. The library isn't even that far away. I drive past it on a near daily basis. Not to brag or anything, but I'm REALLY good at starting things. I'm like a Starting Things Superstar. When I want to do something or something needs to get done... I just go for it. I say... why waste time? Push that start button on the microwave. Sometimes cookies stress me out. Usually it happens when I realize I haven't even started on them and it's already 8pm the night before the cookies are needed, which is usually also the same day that the entire neighborhood is coming over to celebrate a Victorian Tea themed birthday party for my 3 year old daughter that includes period costumes for everyone and coincidentally, also turns out to be the same weekend I intend to climb Mt.
