Brightly colored elf, Christmas, and winter decorated chocolate sugar cookies

I went to Costco today.

If you don't know what Costco is....it's a giant warehouse store. You pay money to have a card that lets you in the door so you can spend a ridiculous amount of money every time you go there because everything is sold in bulk and WEIRDLY...bulk items completely bypass my impulse control center.

972 candy bars in one bag? LET ME AT THEM!!

17 pounds of printer ink? I NEED IT! I don't want to run out!

A 27-pack of little girl leggings? Come on now. That's a given. You KNOW how I hate laundry.

The sheer volume of products and packaging is a complete assault on all my logic and reasoning skills. And...as it turns out...on everyone else's as well. There's always a crowd of people trying to push absurdly over sized carts (They can fit THREE KIDS across in those things!!) down every distracting aisle, but they can never make it more than three feet without stopping because there's simply too much to process every second of your Costco shopping life.

So...basically... it's my favorite store ever.

But really it's not.

That was sarcasm.

I'm surprised you didn't pick up on that.

That was also sarcasm.

But this morning! THIS MORNING WAS DIFFERENT. It just so happened to be my actually very favorite trip to Costco in my entire life, and I'm willing to bet that it will remain so until the end of my days.

Because TODAY my friends, I met the best shopper in the history of ever. He had a SPEAKER system in his cart. And it was playing the odyssey theme song from The Lord of the Rings movies.

That guy wins shopping forever.

I was inspired.

I was going to GET THAT VANILLA.

And also probably the leggings. Because I really, really DO hate laundry.

What I do NOT hate is Ann Clark Cookie Cutters. Especially not this new elf shoe cutter that I designed for them!!

How to make elf shoe decorated sugar cookies:

Step 1.

Outline and flood the entire cookie with a medium consistency green icing and a #3 tip. Let the icing dry for four hours.

Step 2.

With a medium consistency white icing and a #3 tip, pipe the trim on the top of the shoe. Let dry for another 20 minutes.

I seriously struggled trying to decide if I should add sanding sugar to the wet icing on the trim in this step. Ultimately I decided not to...but it was because I didn't want to clean sanding sugar off my brand-new-only-days-old kitchen floor. I still think it would be a really cool effect if you are willing to risk the sanding sugar sweep.

Step 3.

Finish the cookie off with a piped buckle in the center of the shoe.
