Happy and fun Christmas cookies - snowman elf faces, mittens, and holly

Today one of my children informed me that there only 6 more days until Christmas.

Another one of my children informed me that -- "I learned something new about my underwear today."

I'm not sure which declaration was more alarming.

I mean... I think I'm ready for my children to be home...all day...with me...in the middle of winter...with subfreezing temperatures...for over two weeks straight. But then, I also thought that yesterday was the firs week of December. So I can't really be sure.

And if you're wondering... I definitely did NOT ask my other child what she learned.

Because I am a straight up scaredy-cat.

How to make winter snowman decorated sugar cookies:

Step 1.

Pipe a circle in the center of the snowman cookie with medium consistency white icing and a #3 tip. Ironically...this will become the head. Let dry for 15 minutes.

Step 2.

Outline and fill the bottom snow circle with the same white icing. Outline and fill the hat part of the cookie with a medium consistency light blue icing. Let dry for 4-6 hours.

Step 3.

Pipe a scarf between the two snow segments with a medium consistency red icing and a #1.5 tip. Pipe the hat brim with medium consistency dark blue icing and a #1.5 tip. Let dry for 15 minutes.

Step 4.

Pipe one end of the scarf and let dry for 15 minutes.

Step 5.

Add the other end of the scarf. Pipe a dot of red icing on the top of the hat for the pom pom. (Can we just stop for a millisecond and appreciate the weirdness that is the name pom pom?! Whenever I see it in print, I have to read it out loud. Because it's fun. I recommend it.) Let dry for another 15 minutes.

Step 6.

Add details to the face with food color markers. I drew eyes, a mouth, and eyebrows with a black food color marker and added rosy cheeks with a pink food color marker. I like to blend the pink marker with a damp brush to smooth out the marker lines. I also added a tiny dot of white icing to the top of each eye.

Step 7.

Pipe a nose with light blue icing and a #1.5 tip. (You can definitely go traditional and pipe an orange nose..but I simply wasn't willing to make one more color of icing. So...blue snowman nose it is.) Add a reflective detail line to the bottom left of the snowman with the same light blue icing. Pipe vertical ribbing lines on the hat brim with the darker blue icing and a #1.5 tip. Add similar ribbing lines to the scarf with the red icing and a #1.5 tip.
