I took my children to the store today to grab some gifts for birthday parties this weekend. I *think* I may have made a small miscalculation. My kids are older now, I told myself. They are responsible members of society, I distinctly remember thinking. Certainly we can get in and out of the TOY SECTION ON A FRIDAY NIGHT without a complete meltdown involving screaming, silly putty and an oddly shaped stuffed polka-dot prancing hyena from Milwaukee. I honestly did not see that happening.
But between the snow and the very nearly hundreds of (at least SEVEN) other children in the toy aisles with their parents and the fact that I'm pretty certain they make the toy aisles narrower than the rest of the store to give it that crowd panic of "they're going to take the last good toy that any reasonable child will ever enjoy ever" feel....even **I** wanted a sparkly pony that lights up and dances and will fly me to the moon on my 17th birthday and then turn itself into a giant piñata of glitter and sugar.
All-in-all, it was a great start to my weekend and the holiday season. I think I'll stick to making cookies for a few more days. You know, until I completely lose all sense of reason and memory and once again take my children out into the wild.
How to make easy Christmas tree ornament decorated sugar cookies.
Step 1.
Use an oval cookie cutter and a food color marker to trace a guide line on the top of the ornament cookie. Outline and fill with a medium consistency black icing and a #3 tip. Let dry for at least 4 hours.Step 2.
Outline and fill the main area of the ornament with a medium consistency red icing. Immediately add three dots of green icing to the bottom section of the ornament. Let dry for another 4 hours.Step 3.
Add detail lines and a top to the ornament with a medium consistency white icing and a #1.5 tip.
