I recently had to take my very nearly teenaged son to an oral surgeon for a bit of a procedure. He's pretty much too cool for everything on the planet that doesn't involve games or his friends. I'm sure it comes as a huge shock to everyone that he was not even remotely excited to be there. The promise of a week of ice cream didn't even dent his disinterest.

You know what DID come as a shock to me though? They were READY FOR US. We were in the waiting room for 5 minutes. And when they called us back, everyone was there and ready to go. My son didn't even have a spare second to get nervous. I could NOT have been more grateful.

Parenting is hard enough. I mean...it's Monday morning and I've already picked up my youngest from school because she "has the cough."

I'm not even joking. I walked into the school office and she literally jumped up into my arms and said, "Can I have cheesy chips?"

She's clearly very ill and needs all of my full love and attention today.

Luckily I already made and packaged up these gems for a thank you gift for OMS of Utah (If you are local - I seriously recommend them!!) because I have a looooong day of magnets and play dough and the very mysterious "crafting" ahead of me today!

step by step cookie decorating tutorial for a surgeon or dentist cookie

How to make surgeon or dentist decorated sugar cookies:

Step 1.

Turn the cutter upside down and use a food color marker to trace what is now the top curve of the cutter. This will give you a guide line for the next step.

Step 2.

Using the line you just drew, outline and fill the top half of the cookie with a medium consistency blue icing and a #3 tip. Outline and fill the bottom section of the cookie as well, leaving a small gap in the center for the face. Let dry for an hour.

Step 3.

Fill in the center section of the cookie with a medium consistency skin colored icing. Let dry for at least 6 hours.

Step 4.

Pipe two dots of black icing for the eyes. Immediately add two smaller dots of white icing to the top right edge of each eye. Add eyebrows with a black food color marker. Pipe the surgical mask details with the blue icing and a #1.5 tip.
