Decorated Giraffe Sugar Cookies - jungle cookies

When I was younger, I worked as a sailboat instructor at a summer camp that was on the shores of a very large lake. In the afternoons, I would take groups of campers out on one of the two yacht size sailboats that the camp owned. We would sail around for hours and come back just in time for dinner. I was LIVING THE LIFE.

I worked there for a few years and was pretty confident in my sailing abilities. One afternoon, the wind had completely died down before we made it back to shore. I tried everything I knew to keep us going, but we were barely crawling along. I probably could have swam back faster. Ahead of me, I could see the other yacht cruising toward the dock. I couldn't understand it. Negative thoughts swarmed into my head. I was a sailing failure. I was incapable of doing anything right. I would never be successful at anything ever again. (I was 17. Everything was a lot more melodramatic back then.) I went back over all of my angles, adjusting everything by inches, trying to squeeze just a little more speed out...and as we crept closer to the dock and the other boat, we realized we could hear a faint buzzing sound. The other boat was USING THE MOTOR.

That realization changed my life. I was judging my own sailing skills against someone that wasn't even sailing. Sometimes we THINK we are comparing apples to apples, but really one is a bicycle and the other is an amoeba...and why are we even judging ourselves and others anyway?!

All this to say...I'm know I'm a month late posting about my contribution to these amazing Animal Cutters for Charity....but maybe don't judge me. 😁😁😁 And also - stop judging yourselves.
Autumn Carpenter from Country Kitchens SweetArt gathered some incredible cookie decorators together to design an amazing set of animal cookie cutters. Every single cutter from this one-of-a-kind set has all the personality and style of the individual decorator.  And...on top of that... 100% of the net profit from the sale of this cutter set will be given to the charity, Tender Hands, Inc.

1. With a medium consistency cream colored icing, pipe a fat oval at the bottom of the face. Let it dry for at least 15 minutes.

2. Grab a medium consistency yellow-gold icing and outline and fill the top of the face and the neck area of the giraffe. Let that dry for another 15 minutes.

3. Use the same icing to pipe the ears and the base of the ossicones. (PS: spell check says that's not a word...but it totally is.) To pipe the ears, I pipe a dot of yellow icing and without squeezing any more icing out, I use the icing tip to draw it toward the head. That way I don't have a pile of yellow icing at the top of the head. Let it all dry for another 15 minutes.

4. Pipe a dot of brown icing at the top of each ossicone with a medium consistency brown icing and a #1.5 tip. Add a tuft of brown hair between the ossicones. Pipe some spots randomly on the neck of the giraffe. Add two tiny dots of black icing for eyes and two slightly larger dots for nostrils.
