How to Make Decorated Gnome Sugar Cookies for Valentine's Day!

Gnome sugar cookies with a candle cutter for Valentine's Day

I started working on some New Year's Resolutions today. And by "working on them" I mean  "starting to make some." And by "resolutions" I mean "things I may or may not get around to in the next 2-12 months." You can be sure that doing things in a timely manner won't make the list this year. Want to know what does?

 1. SLEEP MORE.

Seriously those "going to bed at 3am every night of the week" cookie decorating adventures just aren't cutting it anymore. Turns out.. sleep IS required to function like a rational human being on a regular basis. Who knew?! (Apparently Sleep Experts knew.)

2. MAKE MORE PICASSO COOKIES.

Callye of Sweet Sugarbelle recently shared a fantastic podcast with me that talked about successes and failures. My favorite part is this quote about Picasso --
"28,835 days—that’s the number of days in 79 years. That’s the number of years that Picasso created works of art. He created over 50,000 works of art in his lifetime! That’s two a day, every single day, seven days a week, 365 days a year for 79 years. That’s incredible. That’s prolific, and out of that he has created a ton of masterpieces. Certainly not all of the works he created were masterpieces. Yet, we look to artists who are very well known and have created what we consider to now be masterpieces and we think, “How could I ever create a masterpiece?” We think that we need to be perfect and we need to make something incredible every time, but that’s not where masterpieces come from."
I want to make more cookies without worrying about which ones will be "masterpieces". Some of my best failures have led to AMAZING cookies later.

3. STOP WEARING ORANGE.

It just never looks good on me, you know? I think it will...but it doesn't. It's time to just give it up already.

4. BE A RISING TIDE.

Have you heard the phrase, "Rising tides lift all boats" before? I want to be like that -- to help, to encourage, to share and to give so that others (and myself with them) can be better, go further, reach their goals, and achieve dreams.

But if turns out that I'm more like a sinking tide...then by all means... abandon ship! 😁

5. BUY LESS COOKIE CUTTERS.

Ha ha ha ha. Just kidding. My goal is actually to do more with the cutters I already have. But that absolutely does NOT preclude buying more of those cutters. I mean... the more cutters I own...the more I can do with them...right guys?.... guys?

For example... these ADORABLE gnome people! Can you guess what cutter I used to make them? Gah! I'm too impatient. I'm just going to tell you -- It's the CANDLE CUTTER from Sweet Sugarbelle's new Birthday Cutter Set!!! I love that cutter and I can't wait to use it to make ALL THE THINGS!!

I took the tutorial pictures on a super rainy day and they did NOT turn out well. So...you are stuck with just watching a video to see how I made these cute gnomes!
