Okay, so, sometimes a female person gets pregnant and she grows another living person inside her own body. Its not exactly the same thing as going to the spa for 9 months. And, I don't know about anyone else, but as of yet, I have not figured out how to do this without getting...well...much bigger in the midsection. Here comes your advice though... Do NOT say to a pregnant woman ANY of the following things --
"My goodness, that baby must be ready to come out any day now, huh?" People started saying this to me around 28 weeks. Which, for the record is a solid 3 MONTHS before this baby was due. It doesn't make me feel good about myself. And it should be everyone's goal in life to make me feel good about myself.
"You just keep getting bigger every time I see you." Again, I haven't figured out how to grow a child inside of me without getting bigger. If I could stop getting bigger every time I saw you, I would. Maybe I should just stop seeing you. (But I mean this in the nicest way possible with loving in my heart and everything.)
"WHOA -- You're HUGE!" It may be true, okay, it's definitely true, but I don't want you to tell me that. Especially if I don't know you. And you are like 10 years younger than me. And look fantastic. And we are at the grocery store and you have nothing but vegetables in your cart.
To be fair though, I mean, I do look like this. (Don't judge my ponytail.) Whoa. That kind of looks like a cookie I made one time. Except that I have a weirdy pony tail. And I don't wear nearly as stylish of clothes. (But someday I might.)
What I want to know is how you tricked me into showing you what I look like pregnant. You're totally taking advantage of the fact that I feel bad because someone called me huge. Great, now I'm going to have to go make some off-centered pumpkins on black leaf cookies to feel better about myself as a person. Oh wait, I already did that. Never mind. I'm good.
PS -- Don't forget to not be offended.

I agree... people shouldn't talk about those things, they should be nice...
About the COOKIES... they are so creative... I love how they look and the different texture you gave by using sugar on the black... love!
At least you're pregnant when people say that to you! How about being asked if you're pregnant when you're not?! UGH.
The cookies are awesome!
I am certain that you look beautiful (and your cookies do too!). Your baby appreciates the warm cozy home you are providing for him or her to grow strong and healthy! Mid-sections come and go, but your child is yours forever!
You look beautiful....and did you notice that sometimes, when we are pregnant, we can't really steer that shopping cart very straight...and sometimes, totally not on purpose, it just might run into those little skinny young not-pregnant know-it-alls with the carts full of veggies? Yup...it's a pregnant lady phenomenon.
these leaves are so cute! great idea with the pumpkin, way to think out of the box. Hopefully you'll look back and laugh at the crazy stuff people say about the baby bump...but probably not for a while, right? hang in there - I think you look great!
Ha - so true. And you know what else I don't like? When people decide that they can get all handsy when you're pregnant. Seriously people, pregnant ladies do not necessarily want strangers pawing at their tummies! :)
Oh yeah - and gorgeous pumpkin cookies!
ok here is what you do...let one of these GORGEOUS cookies get rock hard like a hockey puck and WING it at the dumb@** who says stuff like this to a cute preggers! Thank you.
I had a friend who, if she didn't know the person, tell them she wasn't pregnant and make them feel like crap. It was really funny to watch. But I'm sure you look beautiful and that glow is the look of love and not sweat because that's all you do in the last tri! LOL Can you tell I've been there???
Love these cookies, they are so cool!
you are invited to follow my blog
Lovin' your style, as usual! This post brought back my prego memories. 15 years ago I had my 9lb 15oz baby girl. It is safe to say I was literally HUGE. My favorite thing to say to the Captain Obvious-es out there(with a smile and daggers comin' out my eyeballs, "I could be upset with you for hurting my feelings, but I understand you lack common sense and do not know any better."
Thank you for sharing and I'm sorry people are butts sometimes :)
I understand you completely. But this is a good training if you are going to breastfeeding your baby for a long (more a few months) period of time ... I've bought earplugs.
Your cookies as always, amazing.
Kisses from Spain.
Jijiji I'am a mom of three and I do undertand you perfectly !
I loved reading your post. You made me smile and brought me great memories :O)
You look GREAT
the cookies are lovely, and so are you. Your pic looks like my daughter...ponytail and all. She has finally delivered, and has something to show for all the comments. Love the originality.
I'm with Sweet pudgy panda- better to be pregnant than just look it!
Great site- came across it yesterday and subscribed . Here's to many more posts. Best, sandie
Okay, I've never seen you pregnant (or not pregnant for that matter) and so I promise I wouldn't utter any of the prohibited statements but I cannot promise you that I wouldn't touch your belly. Even while I know it's profoundly inappropriate and a violation of a pregnant woman's personal space and I completely know that if I were ever pregnant (which at 54 I don't see happening anytime soon) and someone touched my belly I'd smack them sideways, there are still moments when I forget all that and touch a pregnant woman's belly (not complete strangers mind you but friends and family exclusively). I can't help myself because the whole thing is magical and miraculous and beautiful (and yes, I know how it got there is something short of magical), but touching it just....happens. What also happens is that when I come out of my "wonder of childbirthing" trance and find my hand resting gently on another woman's belly I will often times stammer a bit about "Uh....is this as uncomfortable for you at this moment as it is for me?" and then quickly refer to the weather and the recent activity of the local sports team.
And FYI, no matter how being pregnant might work against a positive body image, I for one, have been more envious of round-bellied, ankle-swollen pregnant women more times in my life than I ever have been of women with long-legs and flat-bellies. Just saying.
Wow this brought back memories.
I've decided that when/if I have another my answer is going to be "Yes, I could deliver any minute, but then the baby would be sick and in the NICU, so I choose to not be selfish and let it grow how it wants."
Mine was in the NICU for three weeks. I remember feeling so guilty about all the times that I said "God, I just want this baby out." At that time, I'd have given anything to keep that baby in and not have the NICU experience. People are suche asses!
Usually people who make those comments have a) either never been pregnant or b) forgot what it is to be preganant. Embrace that belly, it's the only time it's totally acceptable and stylish to have your belly hanging over your jeans :) You forgot to mention the stangers who also like to touch your belly, those ones drove me CRAZY.
Beautiful cookies as usual. I love how your cookies are always a little bit different. I'm usuing your Halloween tutorial to make tons of the square cookies for my 3 kids to take to school. Thanks for always sharing.
I love how creative and different these are! I wish my brain new how to think of different ways to cookie the same stuff over and over again!
I'm sorry someone offended you. Personally, I feel the pressure to somehow acknowledge the little person growing inside my pregnant friends and am usually at a loss of what to say. Probably should just stick to: I'm so excited you're having a baby!
You look absolutely Adorable!
Enjoy every second of that baby bump because the prize is sooo worth it in the end!
It's all about you now :)
Love it - if I was on pinterest I would TOTALLY pin this!
Huge is great when you're pregnant- bet you look wonderful! Don't let the uninformed bug you.
The cookies are wonderful! I'm off to 'Pin' them and then try my hand at making them.
Enjoy your day and your pregnancy!
My "favorite" thing people would say to me was ...Oh you still havent had taht Baby yet??..ummm duh no I am here big as ever OBVIOUSLY I have not had the baby yet!!
Ahhh I'll never forget a woman in my office saying to me as I walked past her " boy you butt is getting huge" This butt will eventually go back to normal but your ugly face will stay the same. I was too chicken in those days to say it back to her but I should have! Enjoy your pregnancy, it will be over before you know it!
LOve the cookies, they are fun and cute!!
As for the belly, I appreciated my big belly when pregnant, for the great shelf I had for holding my plate of food, while eating in front of the TV. I also appreciated the many things I did not have to do, because I could "blame" my size and get out of tasks I did not enjoy. Big bellies DO have advantages!!! All pregnant mamas are beautiful, especially their expanding bellies. Showing how well they are taking care of their precious cargo, loving and nurturing them until they decide it's time to make their grand entrance into this world!
Oh honey... when you are pregnant you are special. Trust me, been there three times. With each pregnancy, I got bigger and bigger. I heard all those comments time and time again. Just ignore them and go on. Most people don't know when to keep their mouths shut! All you need to concern yourself with is you and the baby.
Its been four years since I had my last child. I wish more than anything that I could be pregnant again (husband doesn't want any more kids, even though I long for one more). Instead of letting people's comments effect you, try to cherish the moments that you have while you are pregnant, your labor, and the early days of your baby's life. In a few years you will look back and be glad you did...oh, and eat one of those beautiful cookies- mamas deserve it! :)
You're absolutely adorable Georganne! And you're allowed to be a little bigger because you ARE growing another person inside you! What is the excuse for the rest of us?! I love your blog, love your cookies, love your wit, and wish you lived next door to me!
Oh boy, you had me cracking up with this post! I must show it to my daughter...People made the same remarks to her. Her baby boy ended up being 10 lbs. 9 oz. (no gestational diabetes), born this 4th of July...no epidural or meds!?! She's back to her trim self:)
You look adorable, and your cookies do too! Hang in there!
Beautiful profile and beautiful cookies and this post was beautifully said!
As a mother of two, I totally hear you on the things that people say but shouldn't about your burgeoning belly but you know what's worse is that! It's when they say these things and you had your baby three years ago. That's harder to get over.
Stay safe and happy.
These are really nice. I love that the pumpkin is inside the leaf. Very clever. :)

I love the pumpkin on leaf cookies! You could just tell them that your creative mind needed more room to expand! Best wishes to you as you enter the last few weeks!
You're so cute!
Another one is ~ Are you having TWINS? You're so big!
Umm, yeah, thanks so much.
YOU are so funny! Even if your cookies weren't gorgeous, one would feel compelled to visit just for you! : )
Loved your post....couldn't agree more:) And I LOVE these leaves. They are sooo pretty... I LOVE chocolate cookies...think I might be making these for our Thanksgiving. Can you share what color/s you used for the green piping.... it is beautiful... and did you find sprinkles to match or just use clear? Love love them:)
Amalia -- I used Americolor electric green, and added just a little brown to it. I actually had sanding sugar to match. But if you don't have matching sanding sugar you have a few options --
1-- Make your own. Put some white sugar in a ziplock bag along with a couple drops of electric green food coloring. Seal and shake, mush, and blend until all the sugar is the same color. Spread the sugar out on a plate and let it dry for about 15 minutes before using.
2-- Use whatever color sanding sugar you have. Sanding sugar "blends" with the icing color. Like...if you use red icing and put blue sugar on top...it all looks purple. So if you have a darker green sugar, you can make your icing much more yellow and end up with about the same results.
3 -- Use clear/white sugar. Just don't use a lot of it, and make sure you put it on while the icing is still quite wet so that some of the color will "bleed" into the sugar.
GOOD LUCK!!!
Your cookies are gorgeous and inspire me to get off "my couch". Trust me I need some real inspiration these days.
I am decades and decades past being pregnant but I find it interesting that most women can't wait until the day they start looking pregnant. Then they get sensitive about what people say when they notice. IF they say, "gee you look like _ _ _ _" then be upset. Otherwise, just know that they are excited, or just don't know the "right" words (ARE there right words?).
And like one of the commentors alluded to... just be happy you ARE pregnant when you look pregnant. I once went to party and when a newcomer was introduced, another guest asked when she was due....the silence when she said, "I'm not pregnant" was deafening.
